Birdathon 2013: Birds of Fray is back!

Edit: we’ve just changed the date of the Birdathon from Saturday 27th to Sunday 28th April 2013.

I’m delighted to announce that I’ll be taking part in Tucson Audubon Society’s annual Birdathon, and for the third consecutive year I’ll be in charge of the ‘expert led’ Birds of Fray team.

Now in its 26th year, Birdathon raises vital funds which go directly to conserving birds and wildlife in SE Arizona, and the critical habitats they rely on. What’s more, it’s both fun and extremely rewarding. Birds of Fray won’t win the prize for most species, as I like to keep it accessible to everyone, meaning a more laid back attempt without the 2 a.m. start and 11 p.m. finish for night birds, or mad dashes across the whole region. However, it’ll still be a full and fairly intense day of dawn till dusk birding, and we should see and hear more than 100 species.

Want to get involved? Sure you do! Here’s how…

  • You can join the Birds of Fray team for a Big Day of exciting birding. To be part of our team, you’ll have to commit to getting a few sponsors or making a donation. In return, you’ll get a dawn-till-dusk day of guided birding with yours truly (and who wouldn’t want that?!) and you’ll also have the warm glow of knowing you’ve raised much needed funds for Tucson Audubon’s excellent conservation program. We’ll visit famous birding sites such as Sweetwater Wetlands, Madera Canyon, Rio Rico and Patagonia, and have lots of fun in the process. Please consider taking part – contact me or Tucson Audubon Society to join up.
  • If you can’t join the team, you can sponsor Birds of Fray! Every donation, large or small, really makes a difference, so please consider throwing a few bucks our way. I’ll have the details of how to make a donation soon.

Birds of Fray will hit the road on Sunday 28th April 2013, so please put it in your diary and get involved. Your birds need you!
